Use a Condom, Dammit! PDF Print E-mail

In a war of resilience, the Haitians would flat-out smoke us.   They'd win hands down.   No contest.   Incredibly, after day eleven of the earthquake, rescuers have again pulled a survivor out of rubble.   It's all in the conditioning.   These people are toughend by generations of long periods of going without food and water or shelter.
When I try to envision myself--or other fellow Americans--in a similar situation, all I can think of is my region's survival after Hurricane Katrina.   Still, it is a pale comparison, at best.

No matter how tough we see ourselves, Americans are soft.   None of us, no matter what the socio-economics, would have made it past day three or four without water.   No way.   Our access to resources is so great that even our poorest citizens--and non citizens (illegal aliens)--have access to food, housing and medical programs or plans.   Few have no access to food on a daily basis, no matter how little or of poor quality it may seem.   We are spoiled.   Absolutely spoiled rotten.

Yes.   It has been tough for us here in the days, weeks, months and years that have passed since the series of 100-year storms hit us on the Gulf of Mexico, in the the swamps of Louisiana.   It still is.

No.   Help was not forth coming into the area as it has been in Haiti.   It would have been nice to have had the outpouring of help here in The United States of America from the same Americans who are flocking to Haiti's rescue.   I guess for you to understand, you'd have had to be here.

I see all of the 'charities' doing their bid for Haiti's help in recovering.   I do not begrudge the Haitians any help they get.   I do, though, question how much of the 'help' will actually reach the individuals who need it.   It is a global input of funds.   And, by God, an enormous amount of the money will go to individuals who make a living at graft and malfeasance.   Bernie Madoff, look out!   You're about to be dethroned as the world's biggest thief!   By the way, he just got caught.   The most successful thieves are the ones who haven't been.   Caught, that is.   And this pie is just too big to ignore.   I mean, really, who's going to notice a few million here and there?

In a closing note, I will venture another couple of opinions on the Haitian plight of starvation, poverty, and aids.

Number One:  Condoms.   This item would help in fighting aids.   It would also cut down on the over-population.   Hence, cut down over-population and you cut down on the number of starving people.   Seeing all of these people who have eight children and are living in a cardboard shanty just makes me sick.   Use a damn condom so I don't have to see pictures of your pathetic existence.

Number Two:  The Haitians were starving with an enormous population of homeless before the earthquake.   Now, their ranks are hungrier and have even more homeless.   After the charities spend five years paying themselves while deciding how to spend what's left of the money, the Haitians will still be starving and still be homeless.   I see very little over-all change.

TEACHING WITH BANANAS
Mean Dean - 01-28-2010 11:43

 Speaking of condoms & teaching.....it would certainly benefit societies worldwide, if ALL girls & women were taught how to put a condom on a boy or man. I'm not talking about a hormone filled rush job, but a quick delicate effort from a practice makes perfect study of it. This would not only make a heckuva difference to a male, resulting in a heckuva difference to the female, & a world of difference globally - especially to all of the Banana Republic's.
ma, you taught me well!
